A native of Los Angeles, California, Sean Lotman has lived in Japan, first in Tokyo, then in Kyoto, since 2003. His background is in narrative fiction, and his short stories, essays and poetry have been published in numerous places online and in print. Since transitioning into photography he has published four photo books in London, Tokyo, and Paris: Sunlanders, Middle Life Notes, Amoeba, and The Sniper Paused So He Could Wipe His Brow. All of the photographs in all four books were made by hand in his color darkroom studio, built next to his wife's 550-years-old soba restaurant. Sean is represented by Le Galerie Rouge in Paris, France and with IBASHO in Antwerp, Belgium.
